as an independent musician who just puts stuff on soundcloud & bandcamp , while obviously i’d like if you bought my music , u can just rip it and download it yourself if you really want to . i just ask that u share my music n my bandcamp / soundcloud pages with ur friends ,,, for an artist of my size the Best thing Ever is exposure so . if u cant support me financially , thas ok !! just pls share my music with ur friends !!

i think i remember seeing a study that piracy actually increases profit in a lot of cases, because pirates usually can't afford to buy things, but by pirating the media they can spread it by word of mouth to people who can afford it

i think the logical endpoint of this is giving people free steam keys as part of welfare programs? actually i would support that, i bet you could get a bunch of indie devs to donate a few thousand copies of their game, and getting more people to play the game would probably result in a net positive for the devs too.
