@Clover they opted for personally souring half of fedi’s perception of her campaign and supporters throughout all of this, when if they just did that, they would’ve made way more of a positive impact and did free pr for her while helping so many people. all for a molecule of water in comparison to the ocean of donations from infinitely more rich and powerful figures and organizations.

🦊 One reason they're so pissed off about poor people using the hashtag to ask for help is that the hashtag was supposed to be an advertisement to the Harris campaign to set up shop on the fediverse. This was openly stated in the posts that started it, the idea is to show them look at all this money and enthusiasm there is to harness here, please join Mastodon. Included mention of contacting the campaign leadership about it.
And then all these poor people, useless cripples and embarrassing freaks and the like, started fucking that up, bringing down property values making Mastodon look disreputable.
So, sincerely, outstanding work by everyone who threw a wrench in that. Y'all got in the way of the sort of Mastodon evangelism that is thrilled with Threads and pines for corporate legitimacy. Keep fedi weird, don't let it become a manicured lawn for political campaigns and brands.
