i think a big reason why like big shitty corporate music will never feel actually emotional is cuz like . if you have a song with a sad guitar over it and you come in singing about how sad you are with the most processed vocals possible it sounds So plastic . it all sounds so fake cuz u pay ur producer five figures to mix your vocals in the most dog shit basic “clean” way possible . Be Experimental !!! not all vocals have to sound like they’re being mixed for a fucking Drake song !!! try something new or raw or experimental for Once fucking please
try mixing your song like this https://soundcloud.com/vampiremutual/meals-for-fish-demo !!! this has such cool atmosphere and tension building throughout it despite only being a minute long and a lot of that is because of the way it’s mixed .

@ellie@yearning.gay i mean i basically listen to pop music ("hyperpop" as spotify calls it but its not really) but even then the "cleanness" and "sanitization" of music is terrible. i just want something thats listenable for me and not super "clean" either.
@Maven yea imo clean mixing adn generic ideas will forever be so much worse than not great or even bad mixing and very experimental ideas . like finding the balance between doing smth rlly cool and new and having ur song be mixed in a stylized way that plays to the strengths of the idea is a really good skill to have
@stupidpuppy yea ! as i’ve said before , i think finding that sweet spot between having a really good and unique and innovative idea and mixing it in a stylized way that brings out the good parts of that idea is rlly needed if u wanna sound authentic and cohesive . u can’t just throw a professional preset onto ur mixing chain and call it a day !! do some weird shit , try new stuff , work with what u have instead of defaulting mto “the good sounding one” that doesnt fit ur song at all
@ellie@yearning.gay consider: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pais41IW5dk this shit SLAPS.
@ellie@yearning.gay but consider most of the time you're hearing this is not the time you are going to be enjoying it, and it's going to be on multiplexed as shit phone lines so it sounds like you're hearing it through an underwater speaker. stillllll the song itself is banger

the original artist uploaded the full quality version to their channel
@puppygirlhornypost low quality used as a tool to set atmosphere in music is something that i feel is actually very underutilized and can very much help a song set it’s tone , for example https://soundcloud.com/02_26_2001/sweet-dye
@ellie there are songs i hate the remaster of because the grainy noise in the audio was part of the song and it feels weird to have it “clearer” as I was used to the sound of instruments blending in instead of hearing the distinction between them. It can feel very weird to hear a remaster of a song in crisp quality when you’ve only heard it played on the car radio with poor reception and tin can speakers.
@ellie if i had a nickel for every song that sounded stylized and cool in the previews and was ruined by “professional mixing” i would have two nickels. its not a lot but its weird that its happened twice (cough cough monty.pk)
