in 2017 i wasnt thinking about how google photos knew what a cat was when i searched “cat”. i just thought it was cool and it gave a lot of value to google photos for me
but nowadays i wouldnt be surprised if google has a whole ui for it called ✨ AI Search or something and the search results would be surrounded in this like multicoloured magical border that says “Powered by Google AI ✨” in the top right
@nbsp i was more talking about google photos not google images, but i am pretty sure theyve been using the same technology in google images since the early to mid 2010s (their experience with images was the whole reason the original pixel had such a great camera)
taps on the [brand] photos app icon
icon quickly flies towards the screen and fades into black, then into white
app’s icon appears, with the text “Now with ✨[brand] AI✨ and stays there for solid 20 seconds
turns white again for about 5 seconds
the screen is filled with many light-to-slightly-darker-and-back oscillating boxes, some under “Yesterday”, others under “This week” labels
on the very top there is a search bar with “ ✨ [brand] AI Search✨ in it and a three-tone acid-colored button at the right end
you tap on it, the grey boxes and the three thumbnails that actually loaded in an acceptable time span disappear
you type in “cats”
after 3 seconds, it shows a couple of grey boxes
after they load, turns out that they were slightly fuzzy images of cows
you see a spike of network usage up to ~300 KB/s
