an honest tip from a serial instance admin:
if your relationship with your instance’s admin isn’t two-sided, scale down.
monoliths are the antithesis of federation. at macro with hetzner, at micro with your 1000-user instance. they’re doomed to fall.
if every discussion with an admin is technical or parasocial, you’ve made a mistake.

from the other side:
i know that the dream is to make this sustainable, to have a place for anyone who needs it, to foster a community.
but you’re going to have an unrecoverable database issue. a misconfigured backup that doesn’t have your privkey. a drama that causes a schism in your userbase.
save yourself the hassle. save the users the hassle. scale down.
