@ellie@yearning.gay I'm really sorry about that. It's really upsetting how many people are not that understanding regarding the various denominations of Christianity. I've had extensive talks with my friends about this. Primarily, people think of Christianity as certain vocal churches such as the Southern Baptists. Methodist denominations don't hate gay people, and in fact the Methodist church I went to encouraged pride. They had the rainbows, and encouraged that children come out and parents were understanding. Not all churches teach the same, the nuance between denominations, and bible translations becomes lost with the atheist crowd. While I don't consider myself a Christian anymore, I could not imagine badmouthing the genuine kind people in that religion. There's so many churches that do some incredible work with volunteering for food banks (I should know, I spent a couple days helping a food bank out as part of being a Methodist.) Not all of it is just covering up for whatever the hell is happening at the Vatican. Seeing this community in particular the hate towards Christians... Agh, it gets to me too.

@ellie Yes. so much. Also understand where you’re coming from on the religious abuse. I was never abused by the members of my church but my father would hold my spiritual beliefs over my head. Using things like the ten commandments to justify his horrific actions. that’s not a fault of the church, that’s a fault on my father. It is strange to me people who will look at members of a church and denounce the entire religion, all the denominations and practices. It’s just not right. Christianity has so many denominations that feel like a completely different religion between them. I get hating the Vatican and what the Roman Catholics did. I’m baptized under a protestant denomination (Methodism) I would have to do the ceremonial refusal during things like communion when visiting catholic churches of my extended family… Lumping everyone in the same category? Even if the religion was so bad you’re directly making a statement to those churches we can’t coexist. It splits communities, it makes religious queers feel like they can’t be both religious and queer at the same time. I’m sorry you were caught in the crosshairs, being queer and part of the queer community shouldn’t be a contradiction to having spiritual faith.

@ellie
It’s a common fallacy to see the action of a few individuals in a group and contribute that characteristic to the whole group.
Some people don’t realise that groups still consist of individuals that are all different and unique.
