@nbsp okay- look- i dont want to be using javascript on the server. i absolutely love go. i think svelte is amazing and any time i make any frontend-heavy thing i cannot stand to use anything else (go templates are simple and great but- no i need something that can do client-side stuff too)

this is the obvious solution!!! i need to be able to use the svelte language, but with a golang powered backend

@h i like go so much. it's like
- gold standard stdlib
- decentralized package management
- syntax that works for me

but then
- go cli having opt out telemetry
- GOPROXY literally breaking the ecosystem
- cmd/go being too silent with no intent from developers to make it output any more data
- go's general stubbornness when it comes to anything quality of life. like it took them twelve years to seed random on startup

they should fork go out of google's hands and ban russ cox from touching it then itll be good

@nbsp - i am fine with opt out telemetry if its genuinely not invasive and i believe that to be the case here. didnt they back out anyways because of backlash ? (which i believe to be unwarranted)
but yea i get the other ones

@nbsp > By default, telemetry data is kept only on the local computer
yep as i thought backed out cause of the backlash. this is unfortunate imo but whatever

@h idk i think a program meant to hammer source code into a binary has no business phoning home

@nbsp not all errors get reported, & knowing what kinds of systems any softwares running on is extremely valuable and not really sensitive unless paired with other data like in web fingerprinting (this isnt doing that, so its fine)

@h rightright but i think it's healthy to not give google an inch when it comes to this stuff because it's Google
when yarn did it there was no backlash because it's an independent project
when it's google, eh, like i don't really mind the outcome but i do think the uproar was at least deserved

@nbsp normally yea but i really don't think that logic applies when its an open source project and not something potentially shady. the data go has is embarrassing like theyre working on No information and that sucks and if there wasnt needless uproar that wouldnt be the case! i think its great that people are concerned with these things but id rather it not be "telemetry = bad" but "telemetry can be bad, lemme look into this for a moment"
