saying that ai helps you “create art” is like going to mcdonalds to order a burger and saying that the employee helped you make the burger

you told them what you wanted, and you got it. you didnt make shit

@nano well ai _tools_ can help. like animation programs have something akin to an interpolator for helping animators create inbetweens. but it's a helper tool not a solution and it should be used as such. very different than whatever "AI" means in the mainstream today

@nano i know but i do think calling it "AI" is actually helping it become more mainstream
it's like how "crypto" now means "cryptocurrency" and not "cryptography" and that Sucks
i try to be specific in my nomenclature, because AI (as an actual concept, not whatever it is being used as now) is very interesting. call it GenAI idk

@tauon @nbsp yeah the wording is annoyingly confusing. i said “ai” because i was talking about the mainstream interpretation, which currently seems to be generative ai

@nano i still dont get why people are so excited about automating... art.

like, art in general is the most beautiful, personal, "human" thing there is, yet they're so keen on automating it. this is such an awful use of technology and massive waste of energy

i could fill an entire fucking book with my thoughts and concerns but that wouldn't be very healthy

@nano i personally know artists who are struggling hard since stable diffusion became a thing because regular clients just disappeared to use generated BS instead, these beautiful jobs, people's dreams are being destroyed in front of our eyes

from an outsider perspective (as in, art never made me any money) it's already incredibly frustrating to think about and watch. can't imagine how it must feel from their perspective
